The Information Technology Office at Clinton Public Schools has two primary areas of focus.  First,  our IT team works top provide the latest technology needs for a rapidly changing world.  The Team provides information systems and services management, device management, a multi-layered network infrastructure, and the technical support to educators and staff for all district services, hardware, and software.

Second, the IT team is dedicated to supporting the infusion of technology into teaching and learning by collaborating with administrators, teachers, and support staff to use technology effectively, efficiently, and with the latest learning resources to provide dynamic, technology integrated, learning experiences. 

It is the mission of the IT Department to deliver reliable, forward-thinking technology services that support teaching and learning, and align with the goals and action plans of our District’s Strategic Objectives.

The Clinton Public Schools Chromebook Program is a vital bridge toward achieving the District mission.  Every student will have access to a Chromebook device to assist with developing technological fluency, critical thinking skils, and social responsibility needed to navigate and shape a rapidly changing world.

Students in grades 5 through 12 will be assigned a dedicated Chromebook which they will keep with them and use as recommended by their teachers throughout the school day and at home.  Students in grades PK through 4 are assigned readily accessible devices that will be stored and used in their classrooms during the school day.

Students and teachers are expected to use their devices intentionally, balancing digital tasks with healthy off-screen engagement.  For more information about the Chromebook Program expections and policies, please review the Chromebook Policies and Information Handbook.

All students in Clinton Public Schools will be provided a managed Google Workspace for Education account.  Google Workspace for Education is a set of eductional productivity tools from Google including GMail, Calendar, Docs, Classroom and more.  All parents will be asked to sign a Consent Form at the start of each school year (through FinalForms).  For more information about Google Workspace for Education, please review the Notice to Parents and Guardians.  Please note, Email addresses for students in grades PK through 4 are primarily used for account access and internal document sharing, and cannot be used to send or receive emails to/from addresses outside of Clinton Public Schools domain.

Clinton Public Schools is committed to protecting the information privacy of our students.  The district complies with State and Federal legislative regulations such as the Act Concerning Student Data Privacy (PA:16-189 & PA:18-125), The Family Edcational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).  Although many regulations apply only to students, the district is committed to protecting the privacy of all our data though policies and practices that give our students and staff safe experiences online and in the classroom.  All software vendors are asked to sign and comply with the Student Data Privacy Pledge.

Online Security at Clinton Public Schools

CPS manages several layers of protections to ensure the safety of all students and staff when using Internet resources.  The district also implements content filtering solutions as part of protecting students and complying with mandates.

AT SCHOOL:

• These protections help prevent access to inappropriate content such as malicious software, hacking, violence, and pornography.  These tools are configured in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
• Digital Citizenship and Safety curriculm aligned with state and national standards are integrated throughout teaching and learning experiences at Clinton Public Schools.

AT HOME:

• Chrome extensions are installed to help reduct access to pornography and other malicious websites when the devices are used at home.  These tools are not 100% effective on their own, and not intended to replace active supervision.
• Parents/Guardians are encouraged to be active participants in their student’s use of devices when not in school.

Instructional Practices, Software, and Tools

Teachers are only allowed to promote the usage of applications/websites that have been approved by school and district administration and adhere to the Connecticut’s Act Concerning Student Data Privacy.  Teachers follow an approval process for the use of any applications and websites that collect student data, including student generated content.  Students are not allowed ot install applications on their Chromebooks unless it has been pre-approved by administration.

Clinton Public Schools is committed to a thoughtful and systematic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across both instructional practices and district operations. The district is also committed to a responsible and ethical approach to teaching and embedding AI skill development, continuously evaluating its impact and risks. This ensures that its implementation supports the district's mission to empower learners to embrace and influence the future with courage and compassion. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science focused on creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. AI is increasingly a part of our lives in ways we may not even notice. From personalized recommendations on streaming services and e-commerce platforms to virtual assistants, facial recognition technology, and self - driving cars, AI has transformed how we live, work, and interact with the world around us.

Generative AI (GenAI) is a subset of AI that focuses on creating new content, such as text, images, audio, and code. Perhaps the most well-known example of GenAI is ChatGPT, which is a type of large language model (LLM) chatbot. LLMs are trained on massive amounts of text data and can generate remarkably human-like text based on patterns in language found in the training data. While the output may seem human and intelligent, it works by computing the most likely outcome based on patterns in language, very much like how autocomplete works.

A successful approach to using AI in schools relies on teachers and students' awareness of responsible use. With AI becoming increasingly integrated into the tools students and teachers use every day , the district is taking a proactive approach, which begins with clear guidelines and communication that is reinforced through AI literacy and thoughtful assignment design by teachers. This requires the entire school community—educators, students, and families—to engage in ongoing conversations about how to use AI responsibly. By understanding the power of AI to enhance learning, while also recognizing its risks, everyone can work together to ensure its use is ethical and aligned with educational goals.
